The Institute

The Institute of Environmental Engineering (IfU) focuses on finding sustainable solutions for global environmental problems such as climate change. Its results attract worldwide attention. The eight professorships conduct interdisciplinary research and teaching in the fields of hydrology, urban water management, groundwater, ecological systems, earth exploration, air quality and particle technology. The institute is currently headed by Prof. Dr. Max Maurer, with deputy director Prof. Dr. Stefanie Hellweg.
The IfU is part of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG) at ETH Zurich. In research and teaching we cooperate closely with the research institutes Empa and Eawag, which also belong to the ETH domain. The DLR (German Aerospace Center) is another important partner.
