Visit by experts from Baoding
Two experts from the China Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology Center (Baoding) visited Switzerland for 2 weeks to further develop the Heihe Groundwater Model and get acquainted with Swiss groundwater management
Dr. Wang Wenxiang and Mr. Wu Xi visited IfU for two weeks. During that time the newest results from hydrogeological field work in the Heihe Mid-reach Basin were input into the Heihe groundwater model. The innovations mainly included the zonation of the hydraulic conductivity field, the inplementation of the spring regions and wetlands, and the distribution of boundary inflows. The multilevel monitoring wells showed that the clay layers in the center of the basin do not have a large areal extent and thus do not act as separation between layers. That means that our 2D approach is fully justified. The work will be continued in cooperation between the two institutions. The next step is the real time exchange of head data observed by the monitoring network. The two visitors were given a guided tour of the NAGRA Grimsel facility for nuclear waste isolation studies by Dr. Paul Marschall. Prof. Li Xin from our partner organization CAREERI in Lanzhou and his wife, who are presently spending a sabbatical at ETH, also took part in the tour.
